The third game of the World Cup was postponed due to rain in Philadelphia and will be extended by a day

PHILADELPHIA — The Major League Baseball World Series has been delayed and extended as an unwelcome guest…

Major League officials, the Houston Astros and the Philadelphia Phillies decided to move Game 3 of the Fall Classic to Tuesday instead of Monday night as it was supposed to be due to rain.

On the other hand, all subsequent matches of the World Cup will be played on one day, that is, the remaining three minimums will end, weather permitting, on Thursday; Friday will be a travel day, and in the event of a game seven, the Houston-Philadelphia matchup will end on Sunday, November 6, instead of the previous Saturday.

The Phillies took advantage of the opportunity to change the pitching rotation for the rest of the series, manager Rob Thomson said.

Ranger Suarez (1-0, 1.86) will start Game 3, replacing Noah Syndergaard, who was scheduled for Monday’s game. He will continue with Aaron Nola (2-1, 4.57), who already went no-decision in the first Classic against the Astros.

Game 5, the last confirmed so far with a 1-1 World Cup score, will be for Syndeergard, and in the case of a hypothetical Game 6, it will be Zack Wheeler (1-2, 2.67), the manager revealed.

The Astros will continue with the same originally planned rotation, which includes Lance McCullers Jr (0-0, 2.45) for third on Tuesday; Cristian Javier (1-0, 1.35) in Game 4 and Justin Verlander (1-0, 7.20) in Game 5, manager Dusty Baker said.

Precipitation began falling intermittently beginning in the afternoon at Citizens Bank Park, but became steady beginning about two hours before playball scheduled for 8:03 PM ET.

“We are assessing the weather forecast in Philadelphia,” Major League Baseball’s Twitter account said at the time. “Three Independent Weather Experts Have Rain in Their Forecasts.”

Just before 6 p.m., the field was draped with the traditional giant tarp covering the diamond and part of the outfield and both teams finished batting practice, though the Phillies were just getting started.
