Saudi Arabia has information that Iran is preparing an attack on the kingdom

Washington. Saudi Arabia shared intelligence with the United States that Iran may be preparing a an imminent attack on the kingdomthree US officials said on Tuesday.

Growing concern over a possible attack on Saudi Arabia takes place during the time of the president’s rule Joe Biden criticized Tehran for suppressing mass protests and condemned Iran for sending hundreds of drones and technical support to Russia for war in ukraine.

“We are concerned about the threat landscape and are in constant communication through military and intelligence channels with the Saudis,” the National Security Council said in a statement. “We will not hesitate to act in defense of our interests and those of our partners in the region.”

Saudi Arabia did not immediately respond to requests for comment, nor did Iran’s mission to the United Nations.

One of the officials who confirmed the exchange of information described it as a credible threat of attack. “soon or within the next 48 hours.” No US embassy or consulate in the region has issued any intelligence-based warnings or advisories to Americans in Saudi Arabia or elsewhere in the Middle East. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.

Asked about the intelligence reports shared by the Saudis, Brigadier General Pat Ryder, the Pentagon secretary, said US military officials were “concerned about the situation in threats in the region“.

“We are in constant contact with our Saudi partners, in terms of what information they should provide in this regard,” Ryder said. “But what we have said before, and I repeat, is that we will retain the right to protect and defend regardless of where our forces are, whether in Iraq or elsewhere.”

A spokesman for the State Department, Ned Pricehe said the United States was “concerned about the threat landscape,” but did not elaborate.

The Wall Street Journal first reported the intelligence shared by the Saudis on Tuesday. Iran has claimed, without presenting evidence, that Saudi Arabia and other rival countries are fueling Iranian discontent in the streets.
